Practise before you need it
Unpack and repack the shelter at home. Set up overnight equipment in benign weather and confirm that everyone fits with their kit.
Record where the equipment is kept, who can use it and when it next needs checking. Keep essential instructions on paper or saved offline. A useful item you understand is worth more than a bag of unfamiliar gadgets.
